Importance: High

Dear Participants,

We are excited to have you join us in beautiful West Palm Beach for the Partnership for Social and Emotional Learning Initiative (PSELI) Convening!

As you know, we will be gathering at the Hilton West Palm Beach Hotel on November 13–15 for an informative, energized and catalytic convening. You can find an updated agenda in the Guidebook app (scroll down for more information on how to access). We hope that in addition to the formal sessions, you will use some of the (unprogrammed) meals and informal time to network with colleagues from other communities.

This email contains information about accommodation, logistics, and the Guidebook app to help you prepare.

When you arrive at the Hilton West Palm Beach Hotel, you will need to check in at the registration desk in the Oceana Foyer (near the main hotel lobby check-in) to pick up your participant materials. As part of your participant materials, your name badge will list your Breakout Session schedule on the back. You were assigned certain sessions based on your preferences from the breakout session survey.

Once again, we will be using Guidebook, an interactive app, to provide information about the Convening, your breakout session and learning institute assignments and to serve as a way to introduce attendees to one another. This is a free app, available through your mobile device or laptop. Our convening is set up as private, so you will have to access it using a passphrase as noted below. We ask that you download the app on your phone prior to your arrival. If you have difficulty, please ask at the registration desk.

From your laptop:

  1. Go to
  2. Look for the search/microscope icon in the top right corner.
  3. Scroll down (below “Type to find a guide”) to where you can enter a passphrase and enter this: pseliwpb

From your mobile device:

  1. Download Guidebook from your preferred app store (it’s free!)
  2. Click on “Find Guides” in the bottom right-hand corner
  3. Click “Have a Passphrase?”
  4. Use: pseliwpb

Like last year, we will be using Guidebook’s “Interact” feature. This tool functions like a social media platform, allowing participants to post messages, insights, and photos, reflect on sessions, and make connections. Any and all photos or other information you upload will only appear on Guidebook for convening participants; this is not a public channel.

We encourage you to sign up with Guidebook in advance of the Convening to set up your profile and start to peruse its contents. Once you’ve signed up, keep an eye on Guidebook—we’ll be posting some fun contests and will be reaching out to you to find out how we can make our shared time together in Palm Beach County more enjoyable and meaningful.

In fact, here’s our first Guidebook contest!

Be the first person from one of the six PSELI communities to sign up for Guidebook and introduce yourself in the Guidebook Interact feed to win a $25 Visa gift card. Share a fun(ny) fact about yourself to break the ice!

Resources on Guidebook
If you are new to the initiative, or just want to refresh your knowledge, watch the following videos from Wallace for background information on PSELI (note, these are the same ones shared last year):

You can also peruse the Resources section on Guidebook for communications materials, marketing collateral, and other items curated from across the PSELI communities.

What To Bring
Bring your laptop and any documents or materials that your community agreed you’d bring. We also encourage you to bring questions and your enthusiasm for meeting with your fellow PSELI colleagues.

Ground Transportation
Participants are responsible for getting to and from the Hilton West Palm Beach Hotel. It is approximately 10 minutes from the Palm Beach International Airport to the Hilton West Palm Beach Hotel.  Please utilize a taxi or ride-sharing service to get to and from the hotel. If you need any assistance for departures, please contact the bell desk at the hotel; we recommend scheduling rides at least 2 hours prior to your flight. For larger groups we suggest booking with Super Shuttle.

Participants are responsible for their own accommodations. Each attendee will need to provide a credit card at check in to cover incidentals only. Please note that if your reservation was made by someone else, the credit card holding the reservation must be present at check in to cover all costs unless a credit card authorization form was submitted prior. Please contact your community lead for any questions on accommodations.

Dress Code
Dress code for the convening is business casual, and jeans are allowed. We will make use of outdoor space; please dress for temperatures that can range from the 70s to the 80s.

Meals during the convening will be covered by the Wallace Foundation—except for your dinner on Thursday, November 14, which is covered by your community’s Wallace grant funding. Please consult with your community leads regarding dinner plans and reimbursement procedures, if necessary.

Like last year, we’ll have our own roving photographer, Stephanie Drenka, on site. We encourage you to keep an eye out for Stephanie. Since you’re together, why not take a team photo to mark your time in Florida? Stephanie will be available for photos during the opening reception or during the day on Thursday. Photos will be posted on Guidebook, and will be used for internal, initiative-related purposes.

Hans Christian Andersen once said, “Where words fail, music speaks.” Help us set the tone for this year’s convening by sharing your favorite music by responding to requests for songs from Stephanie Drenka in Guidebook.  She will add them to our PSELI playlist!

If you have any questions, please contact Tosha Webb ( and Keisha George ( for assistance.

Dear PSELI Principals,

Momentum is building for the National PSELI Convening next month. We are all getting excited! This is a unique opportunity to highlight our community. To this end, there are some items to be aware of and tasks that we are being asked to fulfill. To keep it simple, they are listed below so you have them all in one place.

Just as a final point of clarification, only principals and OST staff are participating during the day on November 13. All others begin with evening kickoff reception on November 13, then a full day on November 14, and then a half day on Friday, November 15, followed by additional Palm Beach County team time from 12:30-2:00 p.m. A final agenda will be released soon.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Your SEL Coaches are the lead supporters in helping get any tasks completed.
