SEL, Mindfulness, and Self Care for Teens in Palm Beach County

As part of the Behavioral Health Pilot led by BeWellPBC and Birth to 22 partners, more than 40 pre-med students in the Allied Program at Forest Hill High School recently participated in workshops on mindfulness and self-care led by Prime Time’s SEL Specialist. Teens defined mindfulness based on their own observation, explored the neuroscience of awareness, practiced mindful movement and awareness exercises and discussed how these tools can help them reduce stress and test anxiety and cultivate a healthier response to challenging life situations. One participant shared “I will use soft belly breathing and movement to relieve stress everyday” and many felt that the practices they did during the session were “relaxing” and helped them “re-focus and concentrate.”
